Vintage single grain whiskies can be amazing, and this 40-year-old bottling from the long-closed Caledonian grain distillery is a perfect example. The nose has notes of maple syrup, toasted vanilla, butterscotch, baking spices, and just a hint of oak. The taste is syrupy-thick and vibrant with maple, cinnamon, clove, honey, and a hint of baked peaches in the background. The finish is long and slightly astringent with a subtle oakiness and hints of dried fruits and spices. Excellent! (March, 2019)
