Producing WhiskyCast has given me the opportunity to taste some really amazing whiskies, and I’m pleased to share my tasting notes with you here. You can search my entire database of tasting notes from this page, and I hope you’ll find it useful.
This whisky was part of the initial release of Glenallachie single malts in July of 2018 by the Billy Walker-led ownership group that acquired the Speyside distillery and its maturing whisky from Chivas Brothers. It was originally matured in American Oak and then finished in a combination of Pedro Ximenez, Oloroso, and virgin oak casks.
The nose has notes of Christmas cake, plums, and a nice earthiness with hints of garden soil and sautéed mushrooms. The taste is thick and oily with a good tartness led by lemon pepper and clove spices, while toffee and dark fruits add complexity. The finish is long and slightly dry with subtle touches of oak and spice. (January, 2019)
