This is the first Port Charlotte “Cask Exploration Release,” and was matured in a combination of ex-Bourbon, French wine, and “MR” casks from an undisclosed Left Bank winemaker in Bordeaux. The nose has a nice peatiness with notes of honey, vanilla, leather, coconut, heather, and gorse. The taste is thick, peppery, and intense with a good smokiness and hints of toasted coconut, honey, heather, ginger, and vanilla. The finish is long with a subtle smokiness and lingering spices.
