Producing WhiskyCast has given me the opportunity to taste some really amazing whiskies, and I’m pleased to share my tasting notes with you here. You can search my entire database of tasting notes from this page, and I hope you’ll find it useful.
This is the second annual release in the George Remus Repeal Reserve series from Indiana’s MGP Distillery, and for 2018, the blending team in Lawrenceburg decided to raise the bottling strength to 50% ABV from 2017’s 47% strength. The whisky remains a blend of MGP’s 21% and 36% Rye mashbills matured for 11 to 12 years before blending, and the nose remains gentle and soft with subtle spices, honey, vanilla, and cocoa. The taste is slightly dry with a good buildup of peppercorns and allspice that fade slowly to reveal touches of dark chocolate, honey, vanilla, and dried fruits. The spices last on the tongue through the finish with a slightly astringent touch and hints of caramel and dark chocolate in the background. (October, 2018)
