Producing WhiskyCast has given me the opportunity to taste some really amazing whiskies, and I’m pleased to share my tasting notes with you here. You can search my entire database of tasting notes from this page, and I hope you’ll find it useful.
This annual release from Indiana’s MGP Distillery honors George Remus, the “king of the bootleggers” around his November 13th birthday each year and the anniversary of Prohibition’s repeal on December 5. It’s a blend of two of MGP’s rye-forward Bourbon mashbills with 21% and 36% rye in whiskies matured for 11 to 12 years.
The nose is aromatic with soft spicy notes of ginger and allspice balanced well by caramel, honey, dried fruits, and a hint of oak. The taste has a good mouthfeel with spices that build up gradually, then take over with a gentle pepperiness and hints of ginger, allspice, vanilla, caramel, and brown sugar. The finish is long with gently fading spices and a nice hint of sweetness. (October, 2018)
