This Irish Whiskey from MMA fighter Conor McGregor’s Eire Born Spirits and Bushmills head distiller David Elder is a blend of malt and grain whiskies from undisclosed Irish distilleries, and gets its name from Dublin 12, the postal district that includes the Crumlin neighborhood where McGregor grew up.
The nose is malty and aromatic with notes of honey, vanilla, burnt caramel, butterscotch, and toasted oak. The taste is fruity and tart with peaches, green apples, a hint of citrus, mild spices, and touches of honey and vanilla in the background. The finish has a lingering tartness with soft spices and touches of honey and butterscotch.
Overall, it is a bit one-dimensional – much like a fighter who can only punch with the right hand. Despite the lack of complexity, it does have a clean, crisp flavor. It’s not a knockout by any stretch, and while McGregor’s fans will likely love it, others will likely find it somewhat disappointing. (September, 2018)
