Balblair 1991 Third Release
Country: Scotland
Region: Highlands
Type: Single Malt
Bottler: Distiller
ABV: 46%
Score: 93 Points
Balblair’s John MacDonald revisited this vintage in 2015 after 24 years in ex-Bourbon barrels, and decided it needed some time in first-fill Spanish Oak ex-Sherry butts. Three years later, it’s been bottled as the third release of the Balblair 1991 Vintage. The nose is fruity with citrus, apricots, and a touch of peaches balanced by subtle honey and toffee notes with muted spices. The taste is fruity with good spices and touches of chocolate, vanilla, and honey in the background for a complex and well-rounded dram. The finish has a touch of toasted coconut that comes alive along with citrus and vanilla notes. Excellent! (April, 2018)
