Gordon & MacPhail Strathisla 1965
Country: Scotland
Region: Speyside
Type: Single Malt
Bottler: Gordon & MacPhail
ABV: 43%
Score: 95 Points
This vintage malt was matured in a first-fill Sherry cask for 48 years before it was bottled in 2014, and the nose is just what one would expect: bold, dark, and complex, with bitter dark chocolate, cocoa beans, anise, and hints of dried fruits and dark honey. The taste is focused, dry, and tannic with a good oakiness and notes of black tea, clove, and a hint of cinnamon at first followed by toffee and brown sugar in the background. The finish is long, dry, and oaky, but remains complex with subtle spices and a hint of fruitiness. Excellent! (October, 2017)
