Producing WhiskyCast has given me the opportunity to taste some really amazing whiskies, and I’m pleased to share my tasting notes with you here. You can search my entire database of tasting notes from this page, and I hope you’ll find it useful.
This is one of the two initial releases in Campari America’s Whiskey Barons Collection of whiskies created to revive historic pre-Prohibition Bourbons. While the whiskey was distilled and bottled at Campari’s Wild Turkey Distillery, this seven-year-0ld Bourbon was charcoal-filtered using a process similar to Tennessee Whiskey’s “Lincoln County Process.”
The nose has notes of dark chocolate, caramel, brown sugar, and hints of vanilla and oak. The taste is thick, viscous, and spicy with black pepper, cinnamon, brown sugar, a hint of maple, caramel, and dark chocolate notes. The finish is long and dry with a good balance of subtle spices, caramel, and oak. (March, 2017)
