Wayne Gretzky No. 99 Red Cask Whisky
Country: Canada
Region:
Type: Canadian Whisky
Bottler: Wayne Gretzky Estates
ABV: 40%
Score: 88 Points
Hockey’s “Great One” has built a distillery at his winery in Niagara, Ontario, but this debut whisky comes from an undisclosed Canadian distillery and is finished in casks used first to mature Gretzky’s red wines. The nose has notes of red grapes, raspberry jam, and subtle spices. The taste starts off thin at first, but develops a nice complexity with notes of raspberry jam, soft spices, a hint of honey, vanilla, and red grapes. The finish is long, smooth, and fades away gently with a nice fruitiness and just a hint of spice. An excellent debut. (January, 2017)
