Producing WhiskyCast has given me the opportunity to taste some really amazing whiskies, and I’m pleased to share my tasting notes with you here. You can search my entire database of tasting notes from this page, and I hope you’ll find it useful.
This is a rare single barrel bottling of Dad’s Hat Pennsylvania Straight Rye produced in 2016 for La Maison du Whisky in Paris, which commissioned it as part of the store’s 60th anniversary celebration. The nose is smooth, yet has a good balance with notes of clove, nutmeg, cashews, vanilla, dark chocolate, caramel, and molasses. The taste is thick and intense with amazing clove, white pepper, and allspice notes that gradually fade to reveal hints of molasses, honey, and dark chocolate. A few drops of water will tame the spices and open up more of the dark chocolate and molasses notes. The finish is amazingly long with gently fading spices and a good balance with the touch of honey in the background. Outstanding! (January, 2017)
