Producing WhiskyCast has given me the opportunity to taste some really amazing whiskies, and I’m pleased to share my tasting notes with you here. You can search my entire database of tasting notes from this page, and I hope you’ll find it useful.
This blended malt comes from William Grant & Sons, where Malt Master Brian Kinsman gets to pick from the vintage casks for Grant’s Rare Cask Reserves series. In this case, Kinsman blended the casks for this bottling exclusive to Houston’s Reserve 101 whisky bar, with only 650 bottles available.
The nose is rich and vibrant with notes of dried apples and bananas, brown sugar, candied orange slices, hints of cinnamon, nutmeg, and honey, with a subtle touch of black cherries. The taste has a smooth mouthfeel with good spices, dried fruits, honey, vanilla, toffee, and a soft oakiness. The finish is long and smooth with a nice oakiness and hints of toffee and roasted almonds. Excellent! (December, 2016)
