Port Ellen 37 Year Old
Country: Scotland
Region: Islay
Type: Single Malt
Bottler: Distiller
ABV: 55.2%
Score: 90 Points
This is from Diageo’s 2016 Classic Malts Special Releases series, and is the oldest distillery bottling of Port Ellen ever released. Only 2,940 bottles were produced, and the nose has notes of grilled pineapple, peaches, baked apples, honey, vanilla, and hints of heather and straw. The taste is tart – with almost bitter citrus and smoke at first dominated by grapefruit and grilled pineapple, along with red apples, a hint of cinnamon, honey, and a nice maltiness in the background. The finish is long with a good balance of spices and fruitiness. (December, 2016)
