Lagavulin 12 (2016 Edition)
Country: Scotland
Region: Islay
Type: Single Malt
Bottler: Distiller
ABV: 57.7%
Score: 93 Points
This cask-strength 12-year-old is Lagavulin’s entry in the Diageo 2016 Special Releases series. The nose is fruity with no alcohol burn despite the high ABV, and has hints of smoke and peat to balance the red apples, peaches, heather, and vanilla notes. The smokiness builds with time in the glass, though, and leads to an intense peppery and smoky taste from the start with white pepper, peat smoke, red apples and hints of grapefruit tartness and brown sugar in the background. The finish is long and smoky with a slight touch of grilled fruits adding tartness. Excellent! (October, 2016)
