Producing WhiskyCast has given me the opportunity to taste some really amazing whiskies, and I’m pleased to share my tasting notes with you here. You can search my entire database of tasting notes from this page, and I hope you’ll find it useful.
This Knob Creek expression is 14 years old – five years older than the usual 9 years Knob Creek is matured for, and comes from some of the few remaining casks laid down by the late Booker Noe before his death in 2004. There are three different batches of the 2001 Vintage, each with a slightly different flavor, and these notes are for Batch #1.
The nose is strong and oaky with good spicy notes of allspice and black pepper, molasses, clover honey, vanilla, and fudge. The taste has cinnamon and black pepper spices balanced by caramel, fudge, vanilla, a hint of red apples, charred oak, and honey. The finish is long and smooth with good spices, apple pie, and hints of caramel and vanilla. Excellent! (June, 2016)
