Rampur Indian Single Malt
Country: India
Region:
Type: Single Malt
Bottler: Distiller (Radico Khaitan)
ABV: 43%
Score: 91 Points
This whisky represents Radico Khaitan’s entry into the single malt whisky market, though the distiller has been making malt whisky at its Rampur Distillery in Uttar Pradesh since 1990 for blending purposes.
The nose has a good maltiness with notes of vanilla, caramel candy, ginger root, and brown sugar. The taste has a good balance with a slow buildup of clove, cardamom, and cinnamon spices to a nice crescendo, while not overpowering vanilla, honey, and ginger notes underneath. The spices fade to reveal a creamy mouthfeel leading into the long, smooth finish with lingering spices and a slight dryness. Very nice. (April, 2016)
