Bruichladdich Octomore 7.3 Islay Barley

This cask-strength Octomore was distilled in 2010 from barley grown on the Octomore Farm near Port Charlotte, and is peated at 169 parts per million of phenols. The nose is phenolic, tarry, medicinal with creosote for that classic Islay aroma, but still doesn’t overpower the heather, honey, and vanilla notes in the background. The taste has peat and spices that gradually build up to a crescendo with good smokiness, cinnamon, clove, and chili powder notes with honey, vanilla, chocolate, and a hint of grilled pineapple in the background. The finish is long, smoky, and soothing. (January, 2016)
