High West Yippie Ki-Yay Rye Whiskey. Image courtesy High West. The background on this whiskey is almost as complex as the flavor. High West blended two-year-old MGP straight rye with older straight rye whiskey distilled at 1792 Barton in Kentucky, then finished the whiskey in wine casks previously used for California Syrah and Vermouth before blending it all together.

The result: a nose with notes of red grapes, hints of allspice and cinnamon, blackberry cobbler, and a slightly herbal aroma. The taste has cinnamon, blackberry cobbler, orange peel, vanilla, caramel, and touches of anise and oatmeal. The finish is smooth and sweet with lingering orange peel and an herbal touch.
