Johnnie Walker XR 21 Year Old Blended Scotch Whisky. Image courtesy Johnnie Walker/Diageo. This version of Johnnie Walker is available primarily in the Asia-Pacific travel retail market, though it is also available through some whisky specialist retailers and World Duty Free’s World of Whiskies shop in London’s Heathrow Airport (which provided a sample for tasting).

The nose has a kiss of smoke, soft spices, honey, coconut, butterscotch, dark chocolate, and a touch of oak. The taste has a good, thick and oily mouthfeel, with sharp spices that kick in after a gentle start and notes of orange oils, banana, and cinnamon. The finish is long, smooth, and fades gently with lingering spices and orange oils before turning dry with touches of coconut and oak. A very complex dram. (October, 2014)
