Van Brunt Stillhouse Malt Whiskey
Country: USA
Region: New York
Type: Single Malt
Bottler: Distiller
ABV: 40%
Score: 83 Points
This single malt whiskey comes from Daric Schlesselman’s family-owned distillery in Brooklyn’s Red Hook neighborhood, and is matured for nine months in new oak barrels. Don’t judge it by its youth, though.
The nose is malty, soft, and buttery with hints of hazelnut, nutmeg, and a hint of cloves. The taste is spicy with cinnamon, along with a nice buttery smoothness and hints of hazelnut, lemon meringue, and vanilla. The finish is dry and short with hints of hazelnut and chocolate. This has good potential for the future, and I’d like to try it with another year or two in the cask. (April, 2014)
