Producing WhiskyCast has given me the opportunity to taste some really amazing whiskies, and I’m pleased to share my tasting notes with you here. You can search my entire database of tasting notes from this page, and I hope you’ll find it useful.
This is one of four new Mortlach distillery bottlings to be released in July of 2014, and these tasting notes are based on early production runs. They will be updated when the bottlings are released if there are significant differences.
The nose is complex, vibrant, and fruity with good spices, roasted pork with juices, and notes of orange peel, peach pie, and a hint of apple cobbler. The taste is spicy with cinnamon and white pepper notes that fade slowly, orange sauce on pork, brown sugar, allspice, and marzipan. The finish has a fruitiness that takes over with blood orange and peach notes, along with hints of brown sugar and chocolate. A splash of water opens up the fruitiness. Outstanding! (November, 2013)
