Old Forester 1870 Original Batch. Image courtesy Old Forester/Brown-Forman.This Bourbon was released in limited amounts at the end of 2014, with plans for wider distribution in 2015, and is the first edition in Old Forester’s Whiskey Row Series leading up to the opening of its small-scale distillery and visitor’s center on Louisville’s Whiskey Row.

The nose has notes of clove and allspice balanced by honey, orange pekoe tea, and hints of grapefruit and vanilla. The taste has a good spiciness with clove, cinnamon, and nutmeg in good balance with honey, orange, pineapple, and a touch of oak. The finish is light and lingering with soft clove, cinnamon, and orange notes. In short, a simple, clean Bourbon with no pretenses. (February, 2015)
