The Balvenie Peat Week 2018 Edition. Image courtesy William Grant & Sons. This peated Balvenie was distilled in 2003 during the one week a year when they distill a batch of peated malt, and was matured for 14 years in American Oak casks. The nose is smoky, but not medicinal with notes of vanilla, heather, honey, and a soft touch of oak. The taste is smoky and oaky with campfire smoke and a good peatiness that lasts and lasts, along with hints of honey and vanilla. The finish is long with a gentle smokiness. Excellent! (July, 2018)
