Laphroaig Select Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky. Image courtesy Laphroaig. This no-age statement whisky from Laphroaig combines the best of the regular Laphroaig 10-year-old, Quarter Cask, Triple Wood, and PX Cask malts, with a period of finishing in virgin American Oak casks. The nose has a good smokiness, but the usual Laphroaig medicinal nature is toned down somewhat. There are hints of brine, seaweed, and heather as well. The taste is peaty and pungent with touches of black pepper, grilled pineapple, and a hint of allspice. The finish fades smoothly with lingering spices and peat smoke. (July, 2014)
