Lagavulin 12 (2018 Edition). Image courtesy Diageo. This annual cask-strength release is one of the mainstays in Diageo’s Special Releases series, and the 2018 edition has a mild peatiness on the nose along with hints of brine, driftwood, honey, and heather. The taste is classic Lagavulin: thick and oily with mild (but solid) peat smoke balanced well by honey, vanilla, and a hint of sea salt. The finish is long and smoky with hints of honey and brine. Excellent! (September, 2018)
