Ardbeg "Twenty Something" 22. Image courtesy Ardbeg. This bottling for Ardbeg Committee members comes from ex-Bourbon casks filled in 1996 during some of the Islay distillery’s darkest days at a time when there were real fears the distillery might be closed for good. The nose has classic Ardbeg peatiness along with heather, a hint of brine, caramel, and a hint of toffee. The taste is peaty, peppery, and pungent with a good smokiness balanced nicely by touches of black pepper, allspice, caramel, and honey. The finish is long with lingering peat smoke, heather, and a hint of honey. (September, 2018)
