Laphroaig Completes Anniversary Releases With 32-Year-Old Whisky

September 11, 2015 — With less than two weeks until Laphroaig celebrates its 200th anniversary with the annual Laphroaig Live webcast on September 24, the Islay distillery has rounded out its slate of bicentennial releases. As previously reported, Laphroaig is releasing a 32-year-old Islay single malt matured in ex-Oloroso Sherry casks and bottled at 46.7% ABV. Only 490 cases (approximately 5,880 bottles) will be released worldwide, with a recommended retail price of $1,200 each.

The move follows this week’s announcement of a 16-year-old anniversary bottling that will be exclusively available in travel retail. In addition, a 21-year-old bottling to mark the 21st anniversary of the Friends of Laphroaig affinity group has been released exclusively through the distillery’s shop and the Laphroaig web site’s online store. However, legal restrictions prohibit the site from accepting orders from residents of the US, Canada, and Russia. According to a Beam Suntory spokesperson, there are no plans to make the Friends of Laphroaig bottling available in the US during 2015.

The final anniversary bottling was the limited-edition re-release of Laphroaig 15 Year Old earlier this year. As reported Thursday on WhiskyCast.com, that expression will not become a permanent part of the distillery’s range. A number of retailers and online commenters have suggested that it will replace the Laphroaig 18 Year Old, which has been discontinued and will only be available until current retail inventories are depleted.
