WhistlePig's The Boss High 2014 "Spirit of Mortimer" Rye Whiskey. Image courtesy WhistlePig Farm. This year’s edition of The Boss Hog single barrel whiskey is named after Mortimer, one of the WhistlePig Farm’s pigs who died earlier in the year. The whisky is nearly 14 years old, and was matured in a combination of new American Oak and first-fill ex-Bourbon barrels. Each barrel will vary slightly in strength, ranging from 59% ABV to around 62% ABV.

The nose is aromatic and woody with charred oak, sandalwood, honey, brown sugar, molasses, and pipe tobacco. The taste is spicy, intense, and powerful with clove, black pepper, and chili powder spices balanced by honey, molasses, and a touch of pipe tobacco that holds it all together. The finish is long and smooth with lingering spices, honey, and hints of dark chocolate fudge. Excellent! (November, 2014)
