Region: Highlands

Type: Single Malt

Bottler: Distiller

ABV: 43%

Score: 93 Points

Tullibardine 225 Sauternes Cask. Image courtesy Tullibardine. This single malt sounds like it should be the name of an IndyCar race, but Tullibardine’s new naming formula is based on the number of litres that each finishing cask can hold. In this case, the Sauternes wine casks hold approximately 225 litres of whisky.

The nose is dry and fruity-sweet with pears, peaches, dried apples, hints of ginger, green grapes, and a touch of sandalwood. The taste is rich, tart and fruity with orange peel, grapefruit, cinnamon spice, banana, coconut, and hints of mango and ginger. The finish is long and fruity with good tropical flavors and a lingering punch of cinnamon. Excellent! (April, 2014)
