The nose is complex with citrus touches, baked oranges, fruitcake, dried apricots, ginger, and a hint of vanilla. The taste is thick and spicy with cinnamon, orange peel, toffee, dried apricots, and a touch of plums underneath. The finish is dry and sweet with a good texture and notes of dried orange peel and marmalade, raisins, and a hint of licorice. A few drops of water cranks up the intensity and flavor to levels usually not associated with The Macallan. This is an extremely complex and well-balanced whisky. (December, 2013)
