The Macallan M Single Malt Scotch Whisky. Photo ©2013 by Mark Gillespie. The debut edition of M features Macallan casks from 1940 to 1991 blended together by The Macallan’s longtime whisky maker, Bob Dalgarno.

The nose is complex with citrus touches, baked oranges, fruitcake, dried apricots, ginger, and a hint of vanilla. The taste is thick and spicy with cinnamon, orange peel, toffee, dried apricots, and a touch of plums underneath. The finish is dry and sweet with a good texture and notes of dried orange peel and marmalade, raisins, and a hint of licorice. A few drops of water cranks up the intensity and flavor to levels usually not associated with The Macallan. This is an extremely complex and well-balanced whisky. (December, 2013)
