Redemption Rye Barrel Proof. Image courtesy Bardstown Barrel Selections/Strong Spirits. This Rye comes from a certain distillery in Southern Indiana, but is bottled at barrel-strength by Bardstown Barrel Selections in Kentucky (and truth be told, one could probably hit a golf ball from that distillery across the Ohio River into Kentucky, making it about as close to a Kentucky Rye as possible).

The nose is aromatic and intense with toasted oak, campfire smoke, leather, honey, clove, nutmeg, and a hint of freshly-roasted coffee beans. The taste has a thick and chewy mouthfeel with strong cinnamon, chili powder, and clove notes that dominate the palate at first, then start fading slowly to reveal honey, brown sugar, cocoa, and a hint of campfire smoke that lingers through the dry finish, along with the fading spices and a hint of caramel candy.
