Old Pulteney 40 Single Malt Scotch Whisky. Image courtesy Old Pulteney. The oldest release yet from one of Scotland’s northern-most distilleries in Wick, this single malt has a very soft and smooth nose with caramel candy, vanilla, and hints of nutmeg. However, the taste shows how vibrant this whisky is, with a peppery spiciness that grabs your senses and shakes them a bit. The spice is balanced well by the same caramel, vanilla, and nutmeg notes from the nose that provide a nice consistency, and the finish lingers nicely. An excellent dram! (August, 2013)
