Hudson Four Grain Bourbon Whiskey. Image courtesy Tuthilltown Spirits/William Grant & Sons. The distillers at Tuthilltown Spirits in Gardiner, New York make this whiskey from corn, rye, wheat, and barley, and while it’s not common to use both rye and wheat grains in the same Bourbon, it works in this case.

The nose has notes of pecan wood, vanilla, molasses, honey, and a hint of butterscotch. The taste is spicy, but with an interesting balance of butterscotch and licorice notes underneath allspice and pecan, with hints of vanilla and molasses in the background. The finish is dry with notes of licorice, molasses, and a hint of plum. (July, 2015)
