Downslope Distilling Double Diamond Single Malt

Country: USA

Region: Colorado

Type: Single Malt

Bottler: Distiller

ABV: 50%

Score: 91 Points

This limited-edition single malt from Colorado’s Downslope Distilling is matured for 2.5 years, and was first aged in a refill ex-Sherry cask previously used in Scotland, then finished in a lightly toasted American Oak wine cask.

The nose is malty and grassy with notes of dried flowers, soft spicy touches of ginger, vanilla, and nutmeg, fresh berries, and peaches. The taste does a 180-degree turn, though, with an intense spiciness of chili powder and cinnamon at first that fades to reveal banana, coconut, vanilla, nutmeg, and a hint of fresh berries that develops leading into the finish. The finish is spicy and fruity with lingering cinnamon and chili powder, fresh berries, banana, and a touch of coconut. Very nice. (July, 2014)
