Compass Box The General

Country: Scotland

Region:

Type: Blended Scotch

Bottler: Compass Box

ABV: 53.4%

Score: 92 Points

The General from Compass Box. Image courtesy Compass Box. This limited-edition bottling from Compass Box used two parcels of whiskies blended years ago and left in casks for an undisclosed number of years, then blended together by Compass Box’s John Glaser.

The result is a nose with good spicy notes of clove, white pepper, and nutmeg…along with roasted almonds, toasted oak, and subtle touches of dark fruits. The taste is thick, rich, and spicy with cinnamon and white pepper notes that linger well, with hints of dark fruits, honey, and vanilla underneath — but the spices stay on top all the way through the finish until they finally fade away. Excellent! (February, 2014)
