Compass Box Bern's Limited Edition 2015 Blended Grain Scotch Whisky. Image courtesy Compass Box/Bern's. This is a unique whisky in many ways. It is a collaboration between Compass Box and Bern’s Steak House in Tampa, Florida, and marks the first time Compass Box has ever put an age statement on one of its whiskies. The 41-year-old blended grain uses casks from the Girvan and Strathclyde grain distilleries in Scotland, and the nose has notes of apricots, dried flowers, and hints of maple candy, nougat, and toffee. The taste is thick and complex with cinnamon, baked apples and peaches, and a hint of berry cobbler. The finish is long with lingering cinnamon, cedar shavings, and orange peel, then turns dry and slightly bitter with a note of baking chocolate. Outstanding! (January, 2016)
