Benromach 2005 Single Cask #126 bottled for the Kensington Wine Market. Image ©2013 by Mark Gillespie. This single malt was distilled in February 2005, matured in a first-fill ex-Bourbon barrel, then bottled in May of 2013 for the Kensington Wine Market in Calgary, Alberta. It’s even more unusual because it’s one of the rare peaked Benromach single cask bottlings to be released.

The nose has a mild peatiness with notes of clove, lemon peel, honey, ginger, and a hint of oak. The taste has a good balance of peat and pepper with lemon peel, clove, and honey notes adding balance. Water builds up the peatiness, while downplaying the other notes. The finish is long and smoky with tar, creosote, and a hint of burnt vanilla. Very nice! (October, 2013)
