I need to update one of our lead stories in this week's news update...both the Waco Tribune and Whisky Advocate's Fred Minnick are reporting today that the restraining order against Balcones founder Chip Tate has been relaxed to allow him to speak publicly for the first time since his suspension in August. A hearing set for Wednesday in Waco that was scheduled to include sanctions against Tate for violating terms of a restraining order has been taken off the docket, and Tate told Fred Minnick that the dispute is headed for mediation.
Both stories came out after this week's episode of WhiskyCast was produced on Saturday, and I've contacted Chip Tate, his attorney, and a spokesman for Balcones to get more details. In the meantime, you can get links to both the Waco Tribune and Whisky Advocate stories at our web site (Facebook doesn't like it when one tries to include more than one link in a post)...
This week's WhiskyCast is especially timely after a controversial move by regulators in Finland to force next weekend's beer & whisky festival in Helsinki to drop "whisky" from the event's name or lose its permits. The country bans ads for distilled spirits, but there are whisky distillers in Finland, and we'll hear from two of them on this week's episode...along with more whisky news and tasting notes for Ichiro Akuto's Joker single malt, The Glenlivet Special Jubilee Reserve, and this year's Old Forester Birthday Bourbon!
